“I want to change the height without making a mess”

This is the real difference between the two pillows, and it isn't in any spec sheet.

Coop adjusts by opening a zip and taking handfuls of cross-cut foam and microfiber out into a bag, or adding some back in. It works, and it's infinitely fine-grained. It's also loose fill: you're judging by feel, it's hard to get back to exactly where you were, and there's no setting to write down.

Shredded fill settles. Coop's own guidance is to put the pillow in the dryer for ten minutes to fluff it back up, and reviewers at Tom's Guide note it needs regular fluffing to hold its shape.

Solid memory foam layers don't settle in the same way. There's nothing to redistribute, so the height you set is the height it keeps.

The other side of that: loose fill moulds around your head in a way a solid layer doesn't. If you like a pillow you can punch into shape, that's a point for Coop, not against it.
